From the greek idios (own) and fonos (sound), they include a numerous and varying group of instruments.

Many of them are items created for domestic use, but the scarcity of resources to acquire another type of instruments to use along with overflowing imagination in the way they were played over the centuries has contributed to an enormous richness of sound and rhythm used to accompany oneself while singing or playing.
