Idiophones

los_idiofonos.jpeg

From the greek idios (own) and fonos (sound), they include a numerous and varying group of instruments.

Many of them are items created for domestic use, but the scarcity of resources to acquire another type of instruments to use along with overflowing imagination in the way they were played over the centuries has contributed to an enormous richness of sound and rhythm used to accompany oneself while singing or playing.

Organized according to their construction and their direct or indirect technique interpretation may be:

CONCUSSION:

Castanets, cymbals, spoons, canes, clappers made of stone, clay, wood, bone,…

PERCUSSION:

Mortar and pestle, pan or pot with spoon and thimble, anvil, cog rattle and noisemakers, basque txalaparta,…

SHAKEN:

    Jingles, sistrum, cowbell and sheepbells,…

SCRAPED:

Bottle with ridges, bone and cane chain, washboard,…

PLUCKED:

    Jew’s harp.
